Truckee Railyard Master Plan

Urban Planning Partners worked with the Town and Holliday Development to complete a major revision to the Truckee Railyard Master Plan, a plan that Lynette Dias originally prepared in 2008 with RRM Design Group. The purpose of the Railyard Master Plan is to capture and describe the Town of Truckee’s vision for the Railyard Area and guide its future development. Consistent with the Town’s General Plan and Redevelopment Plan, the Railyard Master Plan envisions a mixed-use development that complements and supports historic Downtown Truckee through a diversity of uses and intensity of activities. As part of this work, we also led a comprehensive community engagement process, hosting workshops with the Town Planning Commission and Council. The Town Council unanimously approved the Master Plan in June 2009 and subsequently approved a major revision in 2016. Phase I is now under construction and UPP continues to work on subsequent development phases. We are currently preparing a second amendment to incorporate the Lumberyard into the Master Plan.

Project Stats:

  • 75-acre Master Plan area

  • 13.2 acre station site plan

  • 3 development districts with distinct character and neighborhood patterns

Why We Liked This Project: We loved working in partnership with the Town and Holliday Development to develop a plan to use this brownfield in a way that will strengthen the community’s sense of place, building off of the historic downtown.
